axway.com 3 New challenges to the MFT 'backplane' For the average company, 80% of data exists as files and that file-traffic volume continues to grow at 20-25% year over year. Ovum, a global research and analyst firm, determined that 32% of business-critical processes involve file transfers. Behind the scenes, a legacy of custom patchwork and aging infrastructure has grown over time to shuttle files between disparate applications, servers, and partners. This complexity reduces business visibility, hinders quality of service, and increases vulnerability to data breaches, resulting in regulatory fines, customer service issues, and commercial penalties for failing to meet service level agreements. Meanwhile, businesses are leveraging new API based services. Data stores are accessible through API and managed objects, computing capacities for applications are deployed on-demand in virtual environments, applications are sharing disks with others and the deployment of new releases is no longer a waterfall event but rather daily tasks automated through APIs. File transfer integration must adapt to the new landscape. File transfer solutions and processes must improve operational efficiency, time to delivery and quality of service to internal customers while ensuring overall compliance and governance. The Digital MFT Shared Service Disruptive startups and digital visionaries are shaping the future with customer experience (CX) networks fueled by data, built by open innovation, and driven by consumers. The ability to engage your entire digital ecosystem in ways that stimulate collaboration, excite innovation and resonate best with customers is a challenging objective to reach. It will require capabilities to bring together IT and business leaders, employees, partner communities, integration architects and app developers to create powerful solutions. IT service management (ITSM) organizations need the ability to track service operations by costs, delay and quality and monitor indicators for incident management, problem management, and change management. The daily management of the flow of data, including file transfers, puts performance objectives under pressure. The quality measurement of an MFT infrastructure has a direct impact on indicators while those file transfers are durable and critical. Organizations must rapidly adapt their capabilities to support real-time engagement and on-demand consumption through APIs. As a "utility," they must be able to scale dynamically to handle increasing volumes and on-demand interactions with digital requirements. Imagine communities of information providers, including manufacturers, bankers, retailers, lenders, insurers, healthcare providers, government agencies and other organizations sharing any kind of data, anytime, anywhere while tapping into insights, and collaborating to deliver better customer experiences.
